In bleaker news, workers building the stadiums died at a rate of one person every two days, according to The Guardian. There were also issues with punctual payment. Finally, the bidding process for Qatar to host in the first place was allegedly shady.

Brazil tried to ban alcohol before the 2014 World Cup, but then-FIFA general secretary Jerome Valcke wasn't having it.

“Alcoholic drinks are part of the FIFA World Cup, so we’re going to have them,” he told the Washington Post. “Excuse me if I sound a bit arrogant but that’s something we won’t negotiate.”

The 2022 World Cup is already a disaster. And now fans can't even drink to numb the pain.
